Preserving an epic record collection
Updated: Nov 21, 2022
Take a look at the amazing gift that we look forward to sharing!
Earlier this year, we were presented with an opportunity that was difficult for our fledgling organization to undertake. But we felt like it was important that we tried.
Meet Dan DeMuth.
After a lifetime of collecting, Dan wanted his collection to go to a place that could take care of and share his wonderful recordings.
In spring 2022, we met with Dan and discussed our vision. He graciously decided to donate his entire collection.
The collection is more than 28,000 LPs, 78s, and 45s -- ready to be re-homed at the Center For Recorded Music.
Dan's collection spans decades and genres, representing music from the 1920s to the 1970s including Jazz, Blues, R&B, Country, Western, Rock n' Roll, Classical and more, too many to list!
Along with the recordings came a library of books and publications.
It was challenging to pack and move the collection. Not the least of which because it was ver easy to get distracted! It is an amazing musical journey through the birth and foundational years of popular music.
Acquiring this collection was a major effort involving:
Over 4,000 volunteer miles driven
250+ volunteer hours
Thousands of dollars in costs
Warehouse space made possible with help from GrooveWasher.
Our hard work is far from over.
We still have a lot of effort and cost to sort, catalog, and maintain this collection (even more challenging until we find a permanent home for C4RM).
If you would like to volunteer your time, or help us with donations, it would go a long way in supporting our mission to share music recordings and experiences with the people of Kansas City and the world!
